On Jan. 24, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) introduced S. 150,
her long-anticipated bill to ban "assault weapons"
and "large" magazines. Contrary to media claims that
Feinstein wants to "reinstate" the 1994 ban, the
bill will go much further toward her stated
long-term goal of gun confiscation,
imposing a host

In my BEST Dan Aykroyd:

"The shooters in Oregon and Connecticut committed their
crimes with stolen guns.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, a majority
of guns used by criminals are stolen, bought on the
black market, or obtained in other illegal ways.
Another law is unlikely to deter these types of attacks
which violate multiple laws to begin with."
"Weapons are the tools of power.
In the hands of the state, they can be the tools of decency or the tools
of oppression, depending on the righteousness that state. In the hands
of criminals, they are the tools of evil. In the hands of the free and
decent citizen, they should be the tools of liberty. Weapons compound
man's power to achieve whatever purpose he may have. They amplify the
capabilities of both the good man and the bad, and to exactly the same
degree., having no will of their own. Thus, we must regard them as
servants, not masters--and good servants of good men. Without them, man
is diminished, and his opportunities to fulfill his destiny are
lessened. An unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not
overcome by fleeing from it."

For instance, the
penalty for being a
felon in possession
of a firearm in Oregon
is 5 years in
under HB 3200, the
penalty for being a
person with no criminal
possession of an assault
is 10 years in
One of the timeless debates in this country is over the efficacy of
The problem with such laws, which seems almost self-evident,
is that criminals routinely ignore them (after all, they are criminals).
Law- abiding citizens who have every right to own firearms
are the ones who pay the price for these laws.
